Silliest of premises with a run-of-the-mill story filled with so many corny moments might actually make you think that it is one of those movies that are so bad they become good to watch. It is actually a well made movie that is good to watch.
Set in the near future where it is a rage to see robots box with each other in a gladiatorial setup, Charlie (Jackman) is a small time traveling robot boxing participator who loses everything he has due to over-confidence and stupidity. When his estranged son was given to his custody after the mother dies and joins him in his exploits, they find a bond and a winning combination.
Acting is as silly as its premise with Jackman confusing us for who is the robot and Evangeline Lily as his girlfriend who shows exactly the same 3 emotions as she does in the entire Lost series. Relief comes in the form of his son played by Dakota Goyo who is charming, passionate and innocent at the same time. The robots and their fights are choreographed excellently as they look natural (mechanical) instead of the CGI stuffed transformers. They even have a robot vs. bull fight which I guess was the best part of the movie.
